Job search in 2025 tips and tricks

Short answer: Apply early to fresh listings, search ATS domains and LinkedIn posts, submit on company career sites, contact recruiters after you apply, and skip ghost-job listings that feel off or incomplete.

Be first and be fast

Aim to apply soon after the post goes live. Use job platform filters for “past 24 hours” and check again in the morning for each target time zone. Re-check at lunch and early evening. Weekend or off-hour applications can still work if the role is fresh. Treat speed like a feature of your process.

Find brand-new roles with ATS domain searches

Go straight to company ATS indexes with Google. Use queries like: site:boards.greenhouse.io "software engineer" Berlin, site:jobs.lever.co "analyst" London, site:jobs.ashbyhq.com "data" "remote". Add the time filter so you only see results from the last day or week. This pulls up fresh roles that sometimes appear before big job boards.

Search LinkedIn posts for real-time openings

Rely not only on the Jobs tab but also check posts on LinkedIn from recruiters, founders and team leads. These posts often appear before official listings and give extra details like team setup or pay range. They also show that the role is real and actively being filled, not a ghost job. Checking these posts helps you apply early and reach the people actually hiring.

Apply on company career pages

When you spot a role on a job board or LinkedIn: also submit on the company careers page. Your profile sits in the employer’s main system and stays trackable there. Many job seekers say this gives cleaner tracking and fewer issues. Keep your basic info ready so this extra step stays fast.

Contact people directly

After you apply: send a short note to the hiring manager or recruiter. Four lines max. Say the role, one strong fit point, and your application link. Direct messages and brief emails get replies for many candidates, and often lead to a first screen.

Skip time sinks and read the signs

Watch for ghost jobs. Prefer postings that also appear on the live company careers page with a recent date. Be careful with listings that are vague, very old, or reposted for months. Spend time where the signal is strong.

Handle location and time zones smartly

If you plan to relocate: list only city and state or region on your resume or profile. Keep it simple and truthful. Note your workable hours for remote roles like “Working hours: CET and EST OK” so recruiters see the fit at a glance. Small details reduce silent filters.
